As I’ve mentioned before, since moving to Minnesota my skin has been so dry. Unfortunate for me we moved in the middle of winter. My skin and my lips have paid the price. I’m having a hard time getting them soft again. My husband says my hands feel like sandpaper. Ugh noooo! Not exactly what you want your husband to say. Once they get dry, it takes time to get them back to being soft. I’ve posted a few recipes for body butter, lotion bars and body scrubs. But here’s one for your lips, this is the easiest DIY chapstick for incredibly soft lips. To help heal quicker, try using the sugar scrub http://thewifeslife.com/sugar-salt-scrub/ beforehand, then lather up your lips with the chapstick.

Natural homemade chapstick: 1 Tbsp coconut oil; 1 Tbsp Shea butter; 1 ½ Tbsp Beeswax; and 10 drops Peppermint oil. This recipe makes 8 tubes. I melt everything in a glass container with a spout (so it’s easier to pour) in the microwave. Except the peppermint oil, it will be added last. The beeswax can take a little bit to melt. I do 15 second increments and then stir until you get it completely melted. It usually takes a minute or so. Not too long. Let cool just a tad, and then add the peppermint oil.

Here’s a list of the items I used:

Shea butter

Coconut oil

Beexwax

Chapstick tubes

Peppermint essential oil

You can add a bit of color but usually I leave them clear. After stirring in the essential oil, pour immediately into the tubes. To get my tubes to stay up straight, I actually turn over and put eight small holes in the bottom an egg carton. Then stand each tube up, so you don’t bump them when pouring.

After filling all eight tubes, (I got my tubes from Amazon the link above) let cool. As they cool, they harden right away. After about 10 minutes I remove from the egg carton to let completely cool. Done! Now you have an amazing easy DIY chapstick for incredibly soft lips.  When I make this recipe I give most of them away. You just won’t go through them fast enough to keep them all. My kids and friends love them.

    1. Yea Lisa soooo easy. Chapstick lasts quite a long time. I’m not sure exactly as I usually give some away or to my daughters. But some research into it says about 2 years. If it smells or looks funny then of course don’t use it. I hope this helps. You will love this recipe. 🙂

  1. I can’t wait to give this a try! I feel like I spend so much money on chapstick and then just throw out the containers. I love the idea of making it whenever I need it and then reusing the containers. Win-Win. Thank you for the recipe!
