Ok let’s be honest…how hard is this blogging thing is for beginners?! I work way more than I did at my traditional job. Ok I worked 4-8 hour days, but as a blogger some days I’m putting in 12 hour days and I’m definitely working 5-6 days trying to get my business off its feet. I might be working too much but is there such a thing when it’s your own business? I figure if I work hard now, it’ll pay off later.

Don’t get me wrong…I love blogging. But I can’t wait to see all the fruits of my labor. I wish there was a “go-to, this works for everyone kind of guide”. Well I have a few suggestions to help you get on the right track.  It doesn’t have to be a guessing game. I’m here to help you. Here is your guide for starting a WordPress blog; tips, tricks and ideas for beginners.

There will be days you wonder why you started down the rough and bumpy road and question how anyone earns money from a blog. But believe me there will be those rewarding days that make you forget about the bad days. They pale in comparison to the good days. Ok maybe not FORGET…but definitely not feel so crushed.

First of all, you want a self-hosted WordPress blog (especially if you ever want to monetize your blog). Bluehost is great. If you’re looking to start a WordPress blog for cheap, then choose Bluehost. They are one of the top web hosting companies for 2017 and you can start your own blog with them for just $3.95 a month! They are easy to use, they have great technical support (which is so important) and WordPress is free when you purchase at the link below. Also, if you sign up using my link, you will get your domain for free if you purchase a 12 month or longer blog hosting plan. I highly recommend signing up for the 12 month hosting plan through Bluehost. It’s affordable and you can save a lot of money by signing up for at least 12 months. Get started with Bluehost here.

Next, choosing your blog name can be tricky but very rewarding. Take your time and research before you buy your domain. In fact, when you go to buy your domain you can double check that the name you chose is available. It gets extremely exciting once you choose, purchase and register your very own website.

If you aren’t a techy person, the issues you may run into can be so time consuming and I had so many headaches. I spent countless hours trying to fix stuff myself and it hurt my page views. Eventually I gave in and hired Grayson from iMark interactive. He was worth every penny. The stress he took off me was an amazing feeling. If you’re great with technical stuff then more power to ya. This will be easy!

My biggest regret is trying to do everything in the beginning. I found everything I could on Pinterest. If someone wrote something about blogging, I read it. If you’re new to blogging, you might not know this yet but it can get extremely confusing. You’re reading about stuff that doesn’t apply to you yet, and there can be so many unclear ideas because you aren’t there yet. Take everything a step at a time.

A great course I took was Blog by Number. Suzi is so helpful and walks you through everything. I love that she does videos. You can pause, adjust what she recommends on your blog, and then continue watching. I did this through all the modules. If you’re like me and starting a blog means everything to you but you know nothing about the subject, then try her course. She makes it as easy as paint by number, you remember how easy those were. It’s totally worth it. She goes over stuff I never would have known without her guidance. It is so helpful when you email someone a question and they actually email you an answer.

Suzi has over 40 modules, free stock images, bonuses and an awesome workbook to direct you easily how to start a blog. How great is that?! And her course + ebook are only $47! I know great price right? Click here to get the Blog by Number course now.

I know you want to monetize from the beginning but there is a process to make money from your blog. Of course, there will always be someone that says they made money their first month or they make full-time income in six months. I’m not saying it’s impossible BUT…it would be rare. Be realistic about your goals.

Treat blogging as a business and you will succeed. Businesses need people. You need an audience. When you have great content, people will want to read what you write. They will find you.

    1. Blog by Number is great for those who like step by step instruction. Suzi gives helpful resources, even Pinterest and Facebook group boards to join. It was great.

  1. Thanks for sharing this, I hadn’t heard of these books before!!! 😀
I have to come back and check these out!!! I totally agree, as someone totally in the beginning stages of blogging, it can be crazy hard! I’m tired just thinking about editing my next pics and writing a complete thought without editing 62 times. lol
But I love it. I’m not actually using WordPress, but I’m sure a lot of this is still super applicable.

    1. Oh yes totally applicable Melly. The hardest part is actually deciding to start a blog. It only gets easier from there. It does take a little bit to get the hang of everything but you definitely will. You’ll do great. Like I mentioned in the post, bloggers are extremely helpful. All you have to do is ask questions. 😉
